Dear DivorceCare Support Group Participant,
Welcome to the DivorceCare Support Group at Lake Forest Church Huntersville. Everyone is welcome no matter what circumstances led to your breakup, separation or divorce. Our DivorceCare support group will include a mixture of people separated and divorced. The information in our sessions will be relevant to the issues you now face in your life.
You may be nervous about coming to our DivorceCare support group the first time. We understand that and we encourage you to stick with the group and many will feel better by the end of the first session. Others will take two or three sessions to become comfortable with group process, but it will be worth it to receive the support you deserve.
Here's some helpful information for the first session:
· Child care will be provided for a $5 weekly fee. Please email malvarez@lakeforest.org if childcare is needed.
· There will be waters and snack bars available.
The DivorceCare program has three components:
· Video Seminar. Viewing of a video seminar on DVD dealing with issues important to people experiencing separation or divorce presented by subject matter experts.
· Small Group Discussion. After the video we have small group discussion, time to discuss what was seen on the video and what’s going on in with you. There is no requirement to share in the group discussion, but you’re encouraged to do so.
· Workbook-based personal study and reflection. Completing the short questions and reading insights can make a real difference in your healing from separation and divorce.
The leader/facilitators are Barbara Magrath and Karl Repko. Both facilitators have gone through divorce, and have been participants in Divorcecare. You'll hear more about their story at the meetings. They can surely relate to the emotions that you may be experiencing or have experienced.
If you are like most of us, you are probably uncomfortable coming to your first DivorceCare session. You might also be a little embarrassed about coming. These feelings are normal, but after a few sessions, you’ll begin to notice that you look forward to coming and that that you find it helpful to be around people who understand how you feel and that you have a place to talk about what is going on in your life.
You will hear concepts and practical advice that can help you heal from your separation or divorce. We’re sorry for the circumstances that brought you to our group, but we’re glad you found us. We look forward to joining you on your journey toward rebuilding your life. See you soon.
